About us

Our vision statement is:
Transforming Lives, Building Community, Shaping Society

Our motto verse for 2010 is 1 Peter 3:15:
"..in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer... for the hope that you have."

"From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and knew this is where I wanted to be..."

We are a community in, of and for Barnet. We are a church where the Bible is preached clearly and relevantly to help people live lives that are being transformed by Jesus.

Christ Church is an Anglican church in the Diocese of London in the Deanery of Central Barnet. Our Area Bishop is the Bishop of Edmonton.

Christ Church is a member of the Barnet Evangelical Fellowship (BEF) and of Churches Together For Chipping Barnet (CTFCB).

The leaders of these churches get together about once a month and our real desire is to see Barnet, not just individuals, changed by the power of the Gospel.

Christ Church Voluntary Aided Church of England Primary School has strong links with us. It is their aim to encourage the moral, physical, emotional and intellectual development of their children. They are concerned to equip children with the necessary values, knowledge and skills so that they may grow up in the Christian faith and go forward with confidence into their future.

The Church was built in 1845, as a daughter Church of St Giles, South Mimms, to serve the rapidly expanding population of Barnet at that time. It became a parish church in 1853.

The church was built to a design of Sir Gilbert Scott, consisting of the nave and chancel. The north aisle was added ten years after the opening of the Church to accommodate the growing congregation.
A little later the gallery was added for orphans of the Crimean War.

The first Vicar was Revd. William Pennefather.

The Church Patronage Society has been our patron since 1919
and their trustees appoint the Vicar here.

The church grounds are open to the public, so feel free to come and give us a visit.
